Plan and practice how to get out of your home safely.
Have a packed bag ready at a neighbor, friend, or family member's home.
Devise a code word to use with your children, family, friends, and neighbors to alert them when you need the police.
If you believe an argument or abuse is going to occur, try to move to a room where you have an exit to escape.
Stay away from any weapons, and rooms without an outside door or window.
Take your driver's license, social security card, birth certificate, etc. with you when you leave. Put these documents together ahead of time, don't wait until the last minute.
Make sure you have the phone numbers you need written down and with you at all times. Be prepared to call us for emergency help.
